Australian tour to England 1882. Seven excellent early original sepia photographs of individual members of the Australian touring party. Three depict players wearing cricket attire in a studio setting, each by E. Hawkins & Co. of Brighton. Players are J.M. Blackham in wicket-keeping pose, G.J. Connor standing at the wicket wearing batting attire, leaning on his bat, and A.C. Bannerman in batting pose at the wicket. Other images, assumed also to be by Hawkins, feature G. Giffen three quarter length holding a ball, P.S. McDonnnell seated three quarter length, and F.R. Spofforth head and shoulders wearing formal attire in cameo, all in studio settings. The final photograph depicts W.L. Murdoch in batting pose at the wicket wearing Sussex cap. Each photograph measures approx. 4”x 5.5”, laid to crudely trimmed photographer’s mount. It appears that all the images were originally mounted together as a group prior to being broken up. Adhesive marks and damage to mounts, presumably having had an earlier window mount removed. The Bannerman photograph with small tear to top edge, others in very good condition.
