The Ashes. W.G. Grace. England v Australia 1886. Original mono albumen photograph of the England team for the 3rd Test v Australia at Kennington Oval 12th- 14th August 1886. The photograph depicts the eleven members of the England team seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire. Players are Steel (Captain), W.G. Grace, Scotton, Shrewsbury, Read, Barnes, Barlow, Ulyett, Briggs, Tylecote and Lohmann. Printed title below, ‘All England, August 13th, at Kennington Oval’. The photograph measures 3.5”x1.5”, laid to page with advertising to verso for ‘R.G. Barlow British Sports Depot’. Very good condition.
England (434) beat Australia (68 & 149) by an innings and 217 runs to win the three match 1886 Ashes series 3-0. Grace scored 170 in England’s only innings and George Lohmann took twelve wickets in the match.
