South v North 1922. Photograph album comprising thirty three original small candid photographs, all taken at the match played at The Saffrons, Eastbourne, 20th & 21st September 1922. The photographs depict the teams, players entering and leaving the field of play, at the ground etc. Fifteen of the photographs are very nicely signed by the featured player(s), sixteen signatures in total. Signed photographs feature A.E.R. & A.H.H. Gilligan, two signed individually by A.H.H. Gilligan, two by F.E. Woolley, H.T.W. Hardinge, H. Strudwick (did not play), C.W.L. Parker, J.B. Hobbs of the South team, W Rhodes, A. Waddington, R. Kilner, G.E. Tyldesley, C.H. Parkin, G. Geary for the North. Each photograph measures 3.25”x2.25”. Ownership name in pencil to inside front cover of ‘John Whitehead’. Silvering to some images, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
In a relatively low scoring game, scheduled for three days but completed in two, the South (160 & 63) lost to the North (162 & 62/3) by seven wickets. Roy Kilner for the North returned the best bowling figures in the match with 5/11 off 8.5 overs in the second innings.
