‘No Body-Line Here’. Original sepia photograph of native boys playing a rudimentary game of cricket in South Africa. The photograph is undated but appears to date to c.1935 due to the ‘Bodyline’ reference in the title which is hand printed to the mount below the photograph. Photographer’s name ‘G. Liguori’ of Ficksburg handwritten to mount with official stamp to verso. The photograph measures 11.75”x8.25”, laid to official photographer’s mount overall 18”x14”. Light creasing to the mount, the photograph in very good condition. An excellent image.
Situated at the foot of the Imperani Mountain alongside the Lesotho border, Ficksburg is known as the ‘Cherry Capital of the World’. G. Liguori was a prominent chemist, optician, and local photographer operating in Ficksburg.
