West Indies tour of England 1939. Excellent pre tour, head and shoulders, press photographs of five of the tourists being George Hedley, Geoffrey Stolmeyer, Edward Williams, Kenneth Weekes and Ivan Barrow, all in West Indies cricket attire. 6”x8”. Keystone Press Agency photographs. Good images
The tour was abandoned. The three match Test series had been completed at The Oval and the players were due to play their next match against Sussex at Hove, but with the War looming, the tour was abandoned. Had they remained to play the remaining matches, on 2nd September they would have boarded the S.S. Athenia, which was torpedoed and sunk, the first British ship to be lost in the War.
