Hedley Verity. Yorkshire & England 1930-1939. M.C.C. tour of India 1933/34. A selection of over forty five small candid mono photographs from the tour possibly taken by Verity himself or an other player, with what appears to be annotation in Verity’s or players hand in black ink. There are also pencil notes to some photographs by his daughter Grace. The photographs include scenes of play in tour matches and Test matches including ‘The lovely ground at Lahore’, ‘Peshawar Cricket Ground’, ‘The match in progress at the beautiful Patiala ground’, ‘H.H. of Patiala and Arthur Mitchell at Delhi’, ‘Test match in progress, Calcutta’, ‘Test in progress, Madras’, ‘Cricket amongst the tea- Ceylon’ and ‘From the roof of Ajmer College. The match in progress’. Other photographs include photographs of the players onboard ship, Verity, Barnet and Mitchell on beaches, Jardine, Bowes, Khyber Pass, Shooting, The Golden Temple, Amritsar, Taj Mahal etc. Sold with a further selection of around fifty miscellaneous candid photographs including some from the South African tour 1938/39, subjects include Arthur Wood, the scoreboard at the last Test at Durban, group photograph on board ship (SA tour) etc. Various sizes, the smallest 3.25”x2.5” and the largest 5.25”3.50”. Odd faults, the photographs typical of the 1930’s, some fading, generally good condition. Sold with a copy of a signed letter of provenance to this effect from G. Douglas Verity, son of Hedley, to the vendor and dated September 2003
