Hedley Verity. Yorkshire & England, 1930-39. Selection of six typed and handwritten letters to Alan Hill, Verity’s biographer, following the publication of Verity biography. The letters, all dated 1986, the year the book was published, from players who played with him, knew him or simply admired him, Letters from Norman Yardley, John Kay (whose family Verity stayed with when he played at Middleton), Bob Wyatt, Jim Laker, Charles Ekberg, journalist and Lt. Col D.J. Bottomley M.B.E.(written from Verity’s regiment, The Green Howards). All of the letters recall memories of Verity and congratulate Hill on the book. Sold with ‘Hedley Verity 18 May, 1905- 31 July, 1943. The Story of a Gallant Cricketer’, published by the Yorkshire Observer in aid of the Hedley Verity Memorial Fund, ‘Hedley Verity. Yorkshire & England 1930-1939’, compiled by E.L. Roberts and various modern images and photographs of Verity’s gravestone which is located Caserta, near Naples, copy images of Verity and other Yorkshire players etc. Good condition.
