‘Grand Cricket Match- Canterbury. North [of the Thames] v. South of the Thames’ 1866. Early original single sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Canterbury, 6th- 8th August 1866. Both teams featured notable names, the South of the Thames team with the three Grace brothers, E.M., W.G. and G.F. Grace, also Jupp, Lubbock, Griffith, Humphrey, Stephenson, James Lillywhite, Pooley and Willsher. For the North of the Thames, Hearne, Shaw, Walker, Buller, Maitland, Grundy, Chatterton, Wootton, Fitzgerald, Cambridge and Biddulph. The South (73 & 119) lost to the North (46 & 148/8) by two wickets. Printed on the ground by S. Hyde of Canterbury. Some age toning to edges where apparently previously framed, minor adhesive marks to verso, otherwise in very good condition.
The match took place when the three Grace brothers were very much in the early stage of their careers, Edward Mills Grace being aged 24 (scoring 8 & 4), W.G. aged 18 (0 & 6), and Fred Grace aged only 15 (1 & 3no batting at number 11 in both innings).
