Sir Joseph Montagu Cotterill. Sussex 1870-1888. Sepia cabinet card photograph of Cotterill in cricket attire wearing cap and dressed to bat with pads and gloves on and bat in hand. The photograph by Russell & Sons of Chichester. Ink handwritten name, dates and county to lower border. Sold with a small card from Cotterill, sent from Edinburgh, to Charles Pratt Green regarding a request for a cricket bat of his. ‘I am sorry my bats are all locked away in the pavilion and I can’t get at them at present.... I am not quite sure if I have one quite fit to be put on the shelf at present but I will do my best to find one. The card dated 28th November 1892 and nicely signed by Cotterill. Good condition
Charles Pratt-Green was a famous collector of cricket memorabilia including an impressive run of over 150 cricket bats used by famous players from the golden age Joseph Cotterill played twenty seven matches for Sussex. He was one of the best known surgeons of his day
