‘Surrey v. Sussex’ 1878. Early official single sided scorecard for the match played at Kennington Oval, 5th- 7th August 1878. The scorecard with complete printed and handwritten scores in ink and pencil. Batting first, Sussex made 185 (H. Whitfield 64), and in reply Surrey made 218 with H. Jupp taking 255 minutes to score 98. Sussex were then dismissed a second time, for 93, thanks to the Surrey bowler, E.D. Barratt taking 5/50. Surrey comfortably reached their target of 61 (J. Shuter 44no), ending on 63 for the loss of only one wicket to win by nine wickets. Other players featured include W. Lindsay, L.A. Shuter, W.W. Read, R. Humphrey, E.W. Pooley, E. Bray, J. Southerton (Surrey), A.W. Anstruther, H. Phillips, F.F.J. Greenfield, J. Lillywhite, W.A. Bettesworth, W.A. Tester (Sussex) etc. Printed by John Sharp & Co., Ludgate Hill, London. 5”x6.25”. Horizontal folds and some soiling, otherwise in good condition.
John Shuter ran a seven in his second innings.
