John Berry ‘Jack’ Hobbs, Surrey & England 1905-1934. Sepia real photograph postcard of Hobbs standing three quarter length wearing cricket attire and cap, leaning on his bat. Nicely signed by Hobbs in black ink to the photograph and dated ‘1925’. To the verso, a handwritten message from Hobbs thanking the correspondent for ‘your congratulations & lines of August 22nd. Believe me, your kind thoughts are much appreciated’. Signed by Hobbs and dated 18th November 1925. On 15th- 18th August 1925 at Taunton, Jack Hobbs scored his 126th and 127th first-class centuries to equal and then break W.G. Grace’s record of 126. Some wear and slight damage to postcard edge otherwise in good condition. The postcard attractively mounted, framed and glazed with copy of the postcard back mounted below for reference
On reaching the milestone, Percy Fender brought a glass of ginger beer out to toast Hobbs, as he was teetotal. He went onto make 199 first class hundreds in his cricketing career, a record to this day. He was elected sole Cricketer of the Year in 1925, by Wisden in the 1926 edition
