John Arlott. Seven titles by Arlott, the majority hardbacks with good dustwrappers. ‘How To Watch Cricket’, London 1949 softback edition. Handwritten and signed dedication to half title page to ‘Hugh Pickles, as if he needed telling, with best wishes, John Arlott’. Breaking to front internal hinge. No dustwrapper. ‘Landmarks’ edited by G. Rostrevor Hamilton and Arlott 1943, his first published book. ‘Of Period and Place’ 1944 (no dustwrapper). ‘Concerning Cricket’ 1950. ‘Days at the Cricket’ 1951. ‘Fred. Portrait of a Fast Bowler’ 1971, signed by Fred Trueman, and ‘A Word from Arlott’ 1983. Good condition.
Hugh Pickles was a clergyman who was a co-founder of the Church Times Cricket Cup, and jointly contributed with Arlott to the book ‘County Champions’ of 1982
