Tennis and golf. Ellen Hattie Clapsaddle c.1890s. Two large attractive modern colour prints of artworks by Clapsaddle. One is a lady playing a tennis shot with a couple looking on from the other side of the net. The other depicts a golfing scene of a lady golfer playing a shot with male companion and child caddy watching on, and other golfers in the background. Each print measures 13.75”x19.75”. Sold with an original page extract of an engraving titled ‘Lawn Tennis in Prospect Park’ from an original ‘Drawn by T. de Thulstrup’, published in Harpers Weekly in 1885. 14.5”x10”, set in modern mount. Very good condition. Qty 3.
Ellen Clapsaddle was an American illustrator, recognised as one of the most prolific artists for postcards and greeting cards. Thure de Thulstrup was a Swedish born American illustrator who contributed to Harpers Weekly magazine for three decades. Both were active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
