Olympics. ‘Exposition Universelle [World Fair]’ Paris 1900. Six original postcards, all with printed titles for the ‘Exposition Universelle’, of which two are in colour. Each features an illustration/ image of a Paris attraction hosting the exhibition, which was held in conjunction with the 2nd Olympic Games of the modern era. Subjects are ‘Palais des Mines et de la Metallurgie’, ‘Poree Principale’, ‘L’Espagne’, ‘Vue sur la Rue des Nations’, all postally used, ‘Le Palais du Cambodge, Au Trocadero’, and ‘Pont Alexandre III’, both postally unused. Publishers include ND Phot series no. 48, Leopold Verger, Benetictine etc. Minor wear and age toning, otherwise in good condition.
Proposed by Pierre de Coubertin, the 1900 Olympic Games were held as part of the Paris Exposition and comprised nineteen different sports. Most of the winners did not receive medals but were awarded trophies or cups. Some competitors were not even aware they were competing in the Olympic Games!
