North Korea. World Cup 1966. Two joined album pages, one page signed in black ink by seven members of the North Korea team who famously defeated Italy 1-0 in the group stage of the 1966 World Cup. The signatures, collected by the vendor, are Pak Seung-zin, Lee Chang-myung, Pak Doo-ik (goal scorer), Yang Seung-guk, Im Seung-hwi, Han Bong-zin, also Myong Rye-Hyun (Coach). Players’ names annotated in pencil below each signature. Loose mounted to the facing page is a trade card produced to promote the documentary film celebrating the 1966 North Korean team, ‘The Game of Their Lives’, directed by Daniel Gordon, released in 2002 by VeryMuchSo productions. Very good condition.
Rank outsiders North Korea upset the odds by defeating Italy at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough, and finished runners up in their group, with Italy failing to progress. North Korea then lost to Portugal in the Quarter-final 5-3 having led 3-0.
