Commentators and journalists correspondence 1949-1967. Four letters to and from Leslie Deakins, Secretary of Warwickshire C.C.C. One is a single page typed letter from John Arlott, dated 23rd September 1967, which appears to relate to an (unknown) issue reported in ‘the leading dailies’. Arlott apologises ‘for my error’ but describes ‘indignant members going to your office to press for an official complaint’. Arlott closes with the regret that he was not able to made a withdrawal ‘on the basis of the good feeling that has always existed between us’. Nicely signed in black ink by Arlott. Another, is from Jim Swanton at the Daily Telegraph, dated 26th May 1949, asking for Deakins to arrange hotel accommodation for him at the Queen’s Hotel, Birmingham, when he attends the Test Trial match, signed by Swanton. Deakins copy reply of 27th May 1949 states he had been in contact with the hotel manager with no success but will make alternative arrangements if required. Sold with a three page handwritten letter to ‘Dear Leslie’, dated 27th May 1962, from Doug Insole at Lord’s who is travelling to Edgbaston with Alec Bedser and Willie Watson for the 1st Test v Pakistan. Insole mentions tickets received, accommodation, arrangements for batting and fielding practice for ‘the mob’, meeting the press etc. Nicely signed by Insole. Also a press release letter dated ‘May, 1949’ from the ‘Sporting Record’ announcing the launch of a new instructional feature, ‘Learn with our Stars’. Odd minor faults, otherwise in good condition.
