Hubert Ashton. Essex 1921-1939. The Hawks Club (Cambridge University) striped cricket blazer 1921. The maroon blazer, by J.T. Masters of Cambridge, with vertical yellow stripes, buttons with image of an hawk to each, was worn by Ashton. The Hawks Club, formed in 1872, represents the best sportsmen at the University and membership is by election only. Some minor wear and the odd small moth hole otherwise in good condition
Ashton won blues at Cambridge 1920-1922 and played twenty one matches for Essex. He played football for Clapton Orient and Bristol Rovers. He was MP for Chelmsford and President of the M.C.C. in 1960. He was knighted in 1959
