Hubert Ashton. Essex 1921-1939. Free Foresters striped cricket blazer 1924. The striped blazer, by Sidney Smith of Cambridge, with vertical green, red and white/cream stripes was worn by Ashton and has his name handwritten to the neck label. The Free Foresters Club were formed in 1856 and are a wandering cricket club. Fading to the colours of the blazer, some wear and the odd moth hole otherwise in good condition. Sold with a Free Foresters tie
Ashton won blues at Cambridge 1920-1922 and played twenty one matches for Essex. He played football for Clapton Orient and Bristol Rovers. He was MP for Chelmsford and President of the M.C.C. in 1960. He was knighted in 1959
