Ian Terence Botham. Somerset, Worcestershire, Durham, Queensland & England 1974-1993. Duncan Fearnley ‘Magnum’ cricket bat used by Botham in the 1983 cricket season playing for Somerset and in Test matches for England. The bat has one of Botham’s nicknames ‘Animal’ and date 83 handwritten to the shoulder of the bat. The bat has signs of wear to the face of the bat otherwise in good condition. Sold with a letter of authentication signed by Fearnley ‘The bat was hand made by myself for Ian Botham and was used by him during the 1983 season’. The bat was previously sold by John Goodwin Auctioneers in 2019 on behalf of Duncan Fearnley and formed part of his private bat collection. An historic bat
Botham had a very successful season in 1983. Somerset won the Nat West Trophy at Lord’s with Botham as Captain, they were very close to taking the Sunday League title but, having tied with Yorkshire on 46 points, they were placed second on run rate. Botham had a good season with the bat, scoring 852 runs in his 14 first-class matches at 40.57 with a highest score of 152 among three centuries. He also scored a century (103) for England against New Zealand in the Test match at Trent Bridge
