Victor Albert Ludwig Ernest Anton Christian of Schleswig-Holstein ‘Prince Christian Victor’. I Zingari 1887. Original sepia cabinet card photograph of Prince Christian Victor depicted three quarter length in formal attire. Cabinet card by L.W. Kurtz of Wiesbaden, Germany. Gilt to card edges. Nicely signed in black ink to the photograph, ‘Christian Victor of Sch. Holstein’. 4.25”x6.5”. Adhesive marks to verso where previously laid down, nick to left edge, otherwise in good condition. Sold with a folding card for the I Zingari ‘Tour in the West’ 1899 with scores for the three matches played to the centre pages and rear cover. Good condition. Qty 2.
Prince Christian Victor (1867-1900) was a member of the British royal family and a grandson of Queen Victoria. He is the only member of the royal family to have played first-class cricket, appearing in one match for I Zingari against Gentlemen of England at Scarborough, 29th- 31st August 1887, scoring 35 and 0. While serving with the British Army in the Second Boer War, he contracted malaria and died of enteric fever in Pretoria in 1900, aged only 33.
