Arthur Wood. Yorkshire & England 1929-1946. A very large, heavy and thick three quarter leather bound oblong photograph album containing over three hundred and fifty photographs from the cricket seasons of 1930 to 1938, action images, studies of players and incidents from Test and county matches, some images featuring Arthur Wood playing for Yorkshire. The album was compiled by Wood and is titled in gilt to the centre of the front board ‘County Cricket Photographs’ and to the corner of the front board ‘Arthur Wood, 1171 Grangefield Avenue, Bradford’. Strong interest on the England v Australia ‘Ashes’ series of 1934 and the England v South Africa series of 1935 plus other Test series within the period, also much county cricket with obvious Yorkshire county cricket interest. Some excellent images, an aerial view of the Oval 1935, general view of Eastbourne, Sussex v Surrey 1935, general view of the Canterbury Cricket Week 1935, Kent v Gloucestershire, England taking the field v South Africa at the Oval 1935, Celebrations of South Africa’s Test series win 1935, England and India teams at The Oval 1936, players featured include Bradman, Archie Jackson, Verity, Ponsford, Farnes, Hobbs, Rhodes, Hammond, Woolley, Bowes, Wyatt, Freeman, Woodfull, Grimmett, McCabe, Wade, Viljoen, Nourse etc. Odd signed photograph including Sutcliffe, Smailes, Sellers, Hutton, Barber etc. Images of leg theory being bowled by various teams in 1934. Odd photograph from Test and tour matches in Australia with one showing Larwood hitting Bertie Oldfield. The majority of the photographs are two to a page side and measure 8”x10”, some larger photographs, 12”x10” are to a single page. Many of the photographs, but not all, are identified by the printed caption for the photograph which is laid down next to the image. Not all photographs are in chronological order. A nicely compiled album
