Cyril Washbrook. Lancashire & England 1933-1959. ‘Bon Voyage to Cyril Washbrook’ 1946. Original photo album ‘Presented to him at Kemsley House, Manchester on the eve of his departure for Australia August 29th, 1946’ comprising twenty one original mono photographs, the majority featuring the three Lancashire players selected for the 1946/47 M.C.C. tour to Australia and New Zealand (Washbrook, Dick Pollard and Jack Ikin). The photographs depict the players in batting and bowling action and in the nets, the Lancashire team of 1946, also Washbrook walking out to bat, signing a guest list at a reception, signing a bat with Rupert Howard (tour manager) and George Duckworth, captaining Lancashire etc. To the rear of the album is a pocket comprising six items of ephemera from the 1946/47 tour including ‘Itinerary of Voyage’ printed on the M.V. ‘Stirling Castle’, and official card menu for the ‘Farewell Dinner to the M.C.C. Team & Press’ on the M.V. ‘Stirling Castle’, 22nd September 1946. Two folding itinerary cards, one for the Australian, the other for the New Zealand legs of the tour. An unofficial(?) tour Christmas card, and an official menu for the dinner given to the M.C.C. team at the Hotel Windsor, Melbourne, 4th January 1947. Originally from Washbrook’s personal collection. Odd minor faults to the ephemeral items, the album in very good condition.
