‘Great Cricket Charity Auction Sale’. Original catalogue for the auction held at Lord’s on behalf of St. Dunstan’s Hostel on 14th July 1917, ‘On the occasion of the Military Charity Match, An English Army XI v An Australian Imperial Force XI’. The auctioneer was George Robey. Items included bats used by Grace, Trumper, Lohmann, Hirst, Abel, Rhodes, Spofforth etc. Printed by ‘Sporting Life’. Tipped in to modern cream cloth. Padwick 45-1 (but not seen). Odd nicks, tears and folds otherwise in generally good condition
Sir George Edward Wade, known professionally as George Robey, was an English actor, singer and comedian. A keen cricket follower and footballer, he was a close friend of Victor Trumper.
