‘The United All-England Eleven v. Sixteen of Reigate and District’ 1856. Early small original double sided scorecard with incomplete printed scores for the match played at Park Lane, Reigate, 14th- 16th August 1856. The scorecard lists the complete first innings of the Reigate team who reached 102, James Dean taking 8/34 for United England. Top scorer for Reigate was Fred Chadband with 24. In reply, the scorecard depicts United England at 27/3. They went on to make only 72 with William Caffyn (6/25) and William Martingell (4/42) bowling unchanged for Reigate. In the second innings, Reigate reached 114 (Edwin Napper 32, John Wisden taking 8/32), before dismissing United England for 101 (Tom Lockyer 33, Caffyn 6/40) to win by 43 runs. In addition to Caffyn and Martingell the Reigate team was strengthened by a number of ‘ringers’ not local to Reigate including Edwin and William Napper, Alfred Mynn, Harry Killick etc. Printed by Lillywhite’s Printing Tent with advertising announcing the establishment of the ‘F. Lillywhite & Wisden’ cricket supplies’ outlet in Leicester Square to lower portion of front and to verso, also for the publication of ‘Lillywhite’s Guide to Cricketers for 1856’. 3”x4.75”. Minor age toning, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
