‘Grand Cricket Match. United 11 of All England v. 22 [of] Hull & District’ 1859. Early original single sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Argyle Street, Hull, 28th- 30th July 1859. The scorecard depicts the complete printed scores for a remarkable tied match in which United England were bowled out for only 25 in their first innings, James Grundy the only player to reach double figures with 10, Andrew Crossland taking seven wickets for only nine runs for Hull. The 22 of Hull then replied with 83 (J. Sugden 23, H. Lee 20, Grundy taking 10/16). In their second innings United England scraped to 101 (William Caffyn 27) setting Hull only 44 to win. Incredibly, the twenty two of Hull were dismissed for 43, no batsman scoring more than six runs, Caffyn taking 11/29 and Grundy 7/13, the two bowling unchanged for 60 overs. Printed by Thomas Chapman of Hull. 4.5”x6”. The scorecard with horizontal folds and age toning, appears to have been previously framed with pencil annotations to verso and some wear to top edge of verso. Otherwise in good condition.
