Australia tour to England 1890. ‘England v. Australians’ Second Test, The Oval. Early original single sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the second Test, played at Kennington Oval 11th & 12th August 1890. In an evenly matched albeit low scoring game Australia won the toss and batted first but could only make 92, Harry Trott top scorer with 39, England’s ‘Nutty’ Martin taking 6/50 on his Test debut. In reply England fared little better being dismissed for exactly 100 (William Gunn 32). Australia then reached 102 in their second innings (Trott 25), Martin taking a further six wickets to return match bowling figures of twelve wickets for 102 runs. Requiring 95 to win, England limped home with two wickets to spare, winning on an overthrow when Barrett missed an easy run-out. Maurice Read held the innings together with 35. Scheduled for three days, the match was completed in two. Minor staining, otherwise in very good condition.
Having won the first Test at Lord’s and with the third Test washed out without a ball bowled, England won the Ashes series 2-0.
