‘M.C.C. and Ground v. Nottinghamshire’ 1891. Early original scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Lord’s, 1st June 1891. W.G. Grace won the toss for M.C.C. and put Nottinghamshire in to bat on a drying wicket. His decision was vindicated as Nottinghamshire were bowled out for only 21, the six extras being the highest score, Charles Wright scoring five with the bat, and seven batsmen out for ducks. Australian James Ferris took six wickets for seven runs off 13 overs, with John Rawlin taking 4/8 off twelve overs. M.C.C. then replied with 127 as conditions improved, Roland Pope top scorer with 31. Ferris and Jim Phillips then ran through Nottinghamshire again taking five wickets apiece to dismiss them for 69, M.C.C. winning by an innings and 37 runs. The match was scheduled for three days but completed on the first day. Originally from the collection of Cyril Foley who played for M.C.C. in this match. The card appears to have been laid down to tightly trimmed white card with the initials ‘C.P.F.’ annotated in ink to verso. Good/ very good condition.
Nottinghamshire’s total of 21 was their lowest first-class score until 1901 when they were bowled out for just 13 by Yorkshire.
