The Ashes. Australia tour to England 1909. Six original double sided scorecards from the 1909 tour. Includes scorecards for four Test matches, 2nd Test, England v Australia, Lord’s 14th- 16th June. Complete printed scores. Australia won by nine wickets, Vernon Ransford scoring 143no in Australia’s first innings, his only Test century. 3rd Test, Headingley 1st- 3rd August. Blank scorecard for the start of play. Australia won by 126 runs, Charles McCartney taking eleven wickets for Australia in the match. 4th Test, Old Trafford 26th- 28th July. Incomplete printed scores. Match drawn, Frank Laver taking 8/31 in England’s first innings. 5th Test, Kennington Oval 9th- 11th August. Incomplete printed and faintly handwritten scores in pencil. Match drawn, Warren Bardsley scored centuries (136 & 130) for Australia in both innings. Also two tour matches, v M.C.C., Lord’s 20th- 22nd May. Incomplete printed and faintly handwritten scores in pencil. M.C.C. won by three wickets. v Surrey, Kennington Oval 15th- 17th July. Incomplete printed and faintly handwritten scores in pencil. Match drawn. All approx. 5”x8”. Some folds and other odd faults, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
Australia won the five Test series 2-1 with two matches drawn to retain the Ashes.
