Athletics 1920s-1940s. Single page handwritten letter to ‘Dear Woods’ from S.G. [Sydney] Wooderson ‘The Mighty Atom’, dated 21st August 1936. Wooderson reports on an operation to repair a fracture to his leg and muscle damage, and hopes to ‘be able to run again next year’. Nicely signed by Wooderson. Sold with a mono real photograph postcard of A.R. Mills ‘Marathon Champion 1920-21-22’, in vignette standing full length in England jersey and shorts. Signed in ink to verso ‘A.R. Mills, Polytechnic Harriers’. Blind embossed stamp to lower left corner for F. Addy, Bargate, Boston. Also official programmes for the ‘Midland Counties A.A.A. Marathon Championship’ held at Tipton, 1st May 1948. Slipped in is a page nicely signed in ink by J.T. Holden (of Tipton Harriers), dated 1952 who is depicted on the front of the programme, and ‘The [A.A.A.] Championships for 1926’ held at Stamford Bridge, 2nd & 3rd July 1926 with unknown signatures to front cover. Sydney Wooderson was an English athlete in the 1930s and 1940s who, in 1937, set the world record for the mile at Motspur Park, London, a record which stood for five years.
