Raymond Carl Glendenning. Black album containing a collection of photographs taken during his broadcasting career, many B.B.C. photographs, four pieces of artwork drawn and painted by Glendenning,two are original artworks and two are prints, one signed by him plus a letter to Glendenning regarding his artwork. Thirty seven photographs, many taken whilst he was broadcasting include broadcasting 1956, digging on an allotment in 1942 ‘Radi Allotment’, meeting the Queen Mother, ‘The British Army Team in Belfast’, commentating on the Belgium v Holland football match 1942, with the Duke of Edinburgh, broadcasting the launching of the Margate lifeboat 1942, England v Switzerland 1946, Norwegian National ski jump 1950, introducing the Australian David Cup team etc. Various sized photographs, mainly with handwritten annotation. Good condition
Glendenning (1907-1974) was a BBC radio sports commentator and occasional character actor. He covered many major sporting events, and by the end of the Second World War was the BBC’s leading sports commentator on football, boxing, horse racing and tennis. He covered the FA Cup Final every year from 1946 to 1963
