‘The All England Cricket & Football Journal and Athletic Review’ 1878. Volume One. Published by Martin Hurst of Sheffield. Bound volume of the Journal containing twelve editions from April 1877 to March 1878, all with original wrappers featuring a real photograph portrait of a player or team to the front wrapper. The book bound with title page, large full page frontispiece real photograph portrait of ‘The Yorkshire Cricketers’ of 1878 and index. This was a presentation edition given to F.S. Ashley-Cooper from A.D. Taylor. Inscription to front end paper reads ‘To F.S. Ashley-Cooper, with Alfred D. Taylor’s regards’ Minor ageing to boards, some slight splitting to internal hinges at front and rear otherwise in very good condition
The Journal ran for 29 issues from April 1877 to October 1879. The players featured on the front wrapper portraits in this volume are W.G. Grace, George Pinder, Richard Dadt, A.N. Hornby, The Surrey Cricketers, The Derbyshire Cricketers, G.F. Grace, John Keen, Samual Rawson, Ephraim Lockwood, Arthur Appleby esq and Alexander Watson. Plus illustrations of C. Bannerman and W. Whitham
