John Berry ‘Jack’ Hobbs, Surrey & England 1905-1934. ‘Minutes of the Third Annual General Meeting of Jack Hobbs Limited’ 24th January 1923. Single page typed minutes listing those present including Hobbs, adoption of audited accounts, agreement of Directors’ Fees, and the reappointment of company auditors. Nicely signed in black ink by Jack Hobbs (Chairman), Douglas Brown (Manager), and Andrew Kempton (Company Secretary), being the three Directors of the company. Sold with a similar signed sheet for the Fourth Annual General Meeting held on 28th January 1924. Some trimming to pages otherwise in good condition
Hobbs founded his sports shop in Fleet Street, London in 1919. While Jack was playing cricket the shop was overseen by his younger brother, Sidney, until 1931 who then returned to Cambridge. The Cambridge outlet remained a Hobbs family-run business until it was bought out in 2015. Jack continued to run the London shop for many years and claimed he earned more from his shop than he did from cricket.
Andrew Kempton played Minor Counties cricket for Surrey 2nd XI in 1920 and 1921, and captained the Surrey Colts XI during World War II. He also served on the Surrey Committee.
