David Denton. Yorkshire & England 1894-1920. Gunn & Moore ‘The Autograph’ cricket bat used by Denton in the 1908 cricket season scoring two consecutive centuries for Yorkshire against M.C.C. at Scarborough in August and September 1908. The bat is inscribed clearly in black ink in Denton’s hand ‘Scored 121 and 133 with this bat against M.C.C. at Scarborough. August 31st + September 1st and 2nd 1908’. The bat in good original condition and has some tape bound to the blade
The 1908 Festival match against the M.C.C. was drawn, Yorkshire batted first and made 325 all out, Denton top scoring with 133 and Napier taking six wickets. For M.C.C,, who included such players as Fane, Spooner, Douglas, Hutchings, Marsham in their ranks, made 271 all out with George Branston (Nottinghamshire) making 68no and Rhodes taking five wickets. Yorkshire in reply made 208-5 declared with Denton making 121. The M.C.C. in reply making 72-0 before time ran out
