Royman Browne. Cricket artist and illustrator. Six original pen and ink cartoons by Browne. Subjects are W.G. Grace depicted batting in two poses, titled ‘...back play and forward...’ with ‘thought bubble’ of Grace saying ‘... that will look good on the Playfair tie! Heh-heh!’, 5.25”x4”. A fielder taking a high catch at full length while standing atop a step ladder, 8.5”x6.25”. An outstretched wicket-keeper diving full length to catch a Christmas pudding, typed caption reads ‘Har-HAR! VERY funny...!’, 6.5”x3.5”. A hand holding a ball demonstrating the grip for an off-break, 3.5”x6.5”. A batsman wearing American football style jersey, boxing gloves and face grill with typed caption attached, ‘”Space-suit” nutt’n! So it’s like I’m telling you- if them Russians are going to play this crick-ett then, man-oh-man, we gotta play crick-ett too- and better!’, 3.75”x5”. A montage of six illustrations depicting humorous scenes of cricketers, 10”x7.5”. The majority with original tracing paper overlays. Originally from the collection of Gordon Ross, editor of Playfair Cricket Monthly. Very good condition.
