The Ashes. Australia tour to England 1961. An excellent selection of over one hundred and ten original mono press photographs from the 1961 tour including match action from the Test series and the tour matches v Worcestershire and v Surrey, also a team photograph of the Australians, player portraits, travelling, excursions etc. Individual players featured include Richie Benaud (Captain), Neil Harvey, Wally Grout, Barry Jarman, Ron Gaunt, Lindsay Kline, Colin McDonald, Alan Davidson, Graham McKenzie, Brian Booth, Ken Mackay, Ian Quick, Norman O’Neill, Frank Misson and Bob Simpson. General views include the players departing Sydney for the tour, arriving on the ‘Himalaya’ at Tilbury, excursions in Malta, Penshurst Place, bat signing, Peter May assessing his fitness with Doug Insole at Lord’s, inspecting cracks in the pitch at Headingley, packed stands at The Oval, departing from Tilbury on the ‘Strathmore’ etc. Press agencies include P.A./ Reuter, Central Press Photos, Sport & General, Daily Sketch, Planet News, Keystone etc. Various sizes, the majority 10”x8”. The odd photograph with press masking and other minor faults, otherwise in good condition.
Australia won the five match Test series 2-1 with two matches drawn to retain The Ashes.
