South Africa tour to England 1960. A good selection of over seventy original mono press photographs from the 1960 tour including match action from the Test series and the tour match v M.C.C. at Lord’s, also team photographs, player portraits, travelling, training etc. Includes an official team photograph taken at Worcester, signed in ink by four members of the touring party. Signatures are Neil Adcock, Tony Pithey, Sid O’Linn and John Waite. Other individual players featured include Jackie McGlew (Captain), Peter Carlstein, Tom Goddard, Hugh Tayfield, Colin Wesley, Atholl McKinnon, ‘Pom-Pom’ Fellows-Smith, Roy McLean, Chris Duckworth, Geoff Griffin etc. Includes a set of seven ‘Rapid Sequence’ camera shots taken at Ilford of Griffin’s suspect bowling action. General views include disembarking from their flight at Heathrow, playing basketball in a gym when rain washed out play at Old Trafford, and the Old Trafford pitch under covers. Press agencies include P.A./ Reuter, Sport & General, Planet News, Central Press Photos, News Chronicle etc. Various sizes ranging from 11”x8.5” and smaller. Some photographs with press masking and other odd faults, otherwise in good condition.
England won the five match Test series 3-0 with two matches drawn. In a disappointing tour for the South African’s, marred by anti-apartheid demonstrations at grounds, young fast bowler Geoff Griffin was no-balled for throwing several times, effectively ending his playing career.
