‘The Australians 1888’. Rare printed silk handkerchief commemorating the 1888 Australian tour of England. The handkerchief with large central printed portrait in black of the team and Manager, with printed title to top and players’ names below, surrounded by decorative borders in gold. Players featured are P.S. McDonnell (Captain), A.C. Bannerman, H. Trott, C.T.B. Turner, G.J. Bonnor, C.W. Beal (Manager), H.F. Boyle, J. McC. Blackham, J. Worrall, A.H. Jarvis, J.J. Lyons, J. Edwards, F.J. Ferris and S.P. Jones. 16.5” square. The handkerchief has some rust staining and foxing, with some small holes, otherwise appears in good condition. A rarely seen handkerchief.
