James Cobbett ‘Gutta Percha Driver’ cricket bat c1890. Stamps for ‘Richardson of Liverpool’ to the bat in several places. ‘Cobbett’ impressed twice to the cap of the handle and the initials ‘W.D.R.’ and number D23045 run down the splice. The back of the bat is gently rounded rather than ridged. Little is known of James Cobbett because he died of consumption in 1842, aged 38. He kept a workshop near to Lord’s cricket ground and his business thrived after his death. Sold with the late vendors research notes giving further information on the bat. Good condition
