‘Sussex v Surrey at Brighton 1854. Very early single sided scorecard printed by ‘Lillywhite’s Printing Tent by authority and under the Patronage of the Marylebone Club’ for the match played at the Royal Brunswick Ground, Hove on the 29th & 30th June & 1st July 1854. The scorecard showing the fully completed printed scores for the match. Below are printed an advertisement for Lillywhite’s Printing Tent’, ‘Ade’s Registered cricketing belt may be had at the tent’. Players featured include Dean, Wisden, Bushby, Nicholson, Box, Lillywhite for Sussex and Julius Ceasar, Lockyer, Caffyn, Mortlock, Stephenson, Sherwin for Surrey etc. The scorecard measures 3.5”x4.5”. The match was drawn, Sussex batted first and made 146 with Lillywhite top scoring with 42no, Sherman taking 5-45 from 39 overs, in reply Surrey made 196 with Ceasar with 77, Dean four and Wisden three of the wickets off 63 overs to fall. In Sussex’s second innings they made 199, Brown making 55,Martingell taking four wickets and the match finished in a draw with Surrey on 59-5, Ceasar making 43 of the runs scored, Wisden took four of the wickets
