‘The Gentlemen of Kent against the Gentlemen of Hampshire on The Kent Cricket Ground, Canterbury’ 1857. Early single sided scorecard printed by ‘Jennings, Printers of Canterbury for the match played on the 29th and 30th June. The scorecard, with excellent vignette of a cricket match in progress, with fully completed printed scores. The scorecard measure 4.5”x6” and in remarkably good condition for its age. Rare.
The match was drawn with Kent saving the day with one wicket remaining at the conclusion. Hampshire batted first and made 303, Chaplin making 51 and Knatchbull 44, Harenc taking three wickets, in reply Kent made only 133 and were forced to follow-on finishing on 179-9. Fuller Pilch and William Goodhew were the umpires. There were 145 extras in the match!
