Joseph Strutt. Printed by T. Bensley for J. White, first ‘large paper’ edition, London 1801. Illustrated by engravings selected from ancient paintings in sepia. Rebound in quarter leather with raised bands and gilt title to spine, marbled boards. Strutt covered everything to do with sport in this volume. Cricket is referred to on pp 83-84 as part of a chapter on ball games, which includes many of the precursors to cricket such as club ball, trap ball and stool ball. Padwick 836.
