Australia tour to England 1912. Early original sepia photograph of the Australian team who toured England in 1912 for the inaugural Triangular Tournament with England and South Africa. The players, depicted seated and standing in rows wearing cricket attire, blazers and assorted headgear, include Gregory (Captain), Matthews, McLaren, Bardsley, Jennings, Macartney, Carkeek, Kelleway, Mayne etc. The photograph, by E. Hawkins & Co. of Brighton, measures 11.25”x9”, laid to official photographer’s mount, overall 15”x12”. The original mount is overlaid with a hinged modern mount. Slight fading to the image, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
Australia won two, drew three and lost one of the Tests in the inaugural Triangular Tournament of 1912 between England, Australia and South Africa. The tournament was not considered a success due to Australia sending a weakened side and poor weather affecting attendances.
