Australia tour to England 1896. ‘England v. Australia’. Early original double sided scorecard with incomplete printed scores for the first Test, Lord’s 22nd - 24th June 1895. In a topsy-turvy match, Australia may have regretted their decision to bat first, being bowled out before lunch on the first day for only 53, the speed of Tom Richardson taking 6/39. In reply, England then scored 292, Bobby Abel with 94 and W.G. Grace 66 being the top scorers. Australia then rallied in their second innings, posting 347 including a new record partnership (for any wicket) of 221 between Harry Trott (143) and Syd Gregory (103). Richardson returning match bowling figures of eleven wickets for 173 runs. Set 109 to win on a rain affected pitch, England reached their target ending 111/4 to win by six wickets. Fixtures for matches at Lord’s in 1896 to verso. 4.5”x6”. Some wear and soiling to the scorecard otherwise in good condition
