Rugby Union. Ireland v England 1898. Original mono photograph of the Ireland team for the Home Nations Championship match played at the Athletic Ground, Richmond, 5th February 1898. The players seated and standing in rows wearing rugby attire and international caps. The photograph by Reinhold Thiele & Co., London, measures 11.25”x9”, laid to official photographer’s mount, overall 15.5”x13.5”. Players’ names annotated in pencil to verso include Lee (Captain), Davis, McIlwaine, Lindsay, Lytle, Allen, Gwynn, J. & M. Ray, Bulger, O’Brien, Butler, Magee etc. Some foxing and small loss to one corner of the mount, the photograph in very good condition.
