Rugby Union. British Isles Lions team tour of Australia & New Zealand 1930. Large original mono photograph of the British and Irish Lions team taken in New Zealand. The players and Manager, James Baxter, standing and seated in rows, wearing Lions playing attire. Players featured include Prentice (Captain), O’Neill, Rew, Sobey, Farrell, Bowcott, Parker, Jennings, Martindale, Aarvold, Hodgson, Dunne, Novis, Kendrew, Reeve, Beamish, Bonner, Spong, Poole etc. The photograph by Crown Studio of Wellington measures 16.5”x11”, laid to official photographer’s mount, overall 20”x15”. Printed title and players’ names to mount borders. Minor indentation to the top of the photograph, some wear to the mount, otherwise a nice image in very good condition.
The 1930 tour, the first when the British team was dubbed the ‘Lions’, comprised five Test matches, four against the New Zealand ‘All Blacks’ (won one, lost three), and one against Australia (lost 6-5).
