M.C.C. tour to India, Burma & Ceylon 1926/27. First English cricket tour of the sub continent since 1902/03. Two disbound pages from the book ‘The M.C.C. in Northern India’ by C.E. Newham published in Lahore 1927. The verso of the index page comprises seventeen nice signatures in ink of tour members and two others. Signatures are Gilligan (Captain), Chichester-Constable, Dolphin, Hill, Earle, Eckersley, Wyatt, Geary, Leyland, Boyes, Sandham, Tate, Astill, Parsons, Brown, also signed by J.B. Higgins who umpired in two of the tour matches, also by Wilfred Rhodes. The other (title) page of the book, annotated ‘Signed in 1926’, has been signed to the verso by Bhupendrasingh Rajindersingh, Maharaja of Patiala, who played in five tour matches including the second unofficial ‘Test’ to cover for illness and injury. Minor spotting and light creasing, otherwise in very good condition. A rare set of signatures.
Noted as a gruelling tour by the players, some were affected by illness and the team had to be reinforced with other players during the tour
