Charles Burgess Fry. Sussex, Hampshire, Oxford University, Europeans & England 1892-1922. The Triangular Tournament 1912. England v Australia and v South Africa. Original press photograph of the three Captains, Frank Mitchell (South Africa), C.B. Fry (England) and Syd Gregory (Australia) standing full length with arms linked and smiling, Fry in cricket attire, the other two in suits and hats. The photograph by Press Association, London, with date annotated to verso for 2nd May 1912. 6”x8”. Very good condition.
The Triangular Tournament of 1912 comprised nine Test matches held in England. The final match of the series was the first ‘timeless Test’ ever to be played. The tournament was not considered a success. Australia were weakened due to player disputes, the English summer was one of the wettest on record, the matches between Australia and South Africa generated little public interest and the venture was not repeated. England won the tournament with four wins, two draws and no losses.
