Charles Burgess Fry and Lord Hawke. M.C.C. v Rest of England 1914. Original sepia photograph of C.B. Fry wearing cricket attire, standing with his back to the camera, and Lord Hawke, partially obscured by Fry, in conversation with King George V on the outfield at Lord’s. Standing behind the King are the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) and Prince Albert (later King George VI). Handwritten caption in ink below the photograph ‘Lord Hawke, C.B. Fry, The King and Princes at Lord’s’. The King was attending the match between the M.C.C. touring team to South Africa and The Rest of England (captained by Fry), 22nd- 24th June 1914 to celebrate the centenary of the founding of Lord’s Cricket Ground. The Rest won by an innings and 189 runs. The photograph measures 6”x8”, laid down to mount card, overall 7”x9.5”. Photographer unknown. Wear and creasing to mount corners, the photograph in very good condition. A nice image.
