‘T. Lockyer’s Benefit. Surrey & Sussex v. England’ 1867. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Kennington Oval, 26th- 28th August 1867. Batting first, Surrey & Sussex scored 168 (Pooley 68, James Lillywhite 64no) and 59, in reply England made 159 and 88/1, England winning by nine wickets. England’s side comprised E.M. & W.G. Grace, Ricketts, Emmett, Hearne, I.D. & V.E. Walker, Round, Bennett, Greenwood and Willsher. Representing Surrey & Sussex were Humphrey, Jupp, Payne, Griffith, James Lillywhite, Sewell, Southerton etc. For England, Tom Emmett took ten wickets in the match and W.G. Grace (then aged 19) eight. Advertising to lower margin announcing the forthcoming match between Greenwich Pensioners, ‘One Leg v. One Arm’. Advertising to verso for local outlets including Edward J. Page, John Lillywhite etc. 4.5”x5.75”. Very good condition.
