‘Somerset v. Sussex’ 1901. Ranji’s highest score. Original early and rare double sided scorecard for the match played at the County Ground, Taunton, 8th- 10th August 1901. The scorecard with complete printed scores in a high scoring match in which Sussex batted first and scored 236, George Brann top scoring with 107, Len Braund taking 5/102. Replying, Somerset reached 560/8 declared, Lionel Palairet (194) and Talbot Lewis (120) sharing an opening stand of 258, with other contributions from Braund (94), Phillips (53) and Woods (50). On the final day Ranjitsinhji batted throughout, ending 285no and C.B. Fry 119no, the match being drawn. Printed by Hammett & Co., Taunton. 4.5”x6”. Advertising and Somerset fixtures printed to verso. Originally from the collection of A.W.F. Somerset (Sussex 1892-1905). Ex Roger Mann collection. Vertical and horizontal folds, crease to top right corner, otherwise in good condition.
Ranji’s score of 285no remained the highest of his first-class career.
